More Information about Tartufo

There is a Molière who suddenly crosses the path of Teatro da Garagem. A happy anomaly, if we consider that the company does not practice repertoire theater, basing its artistic identity on the texts of the playwright and director Carlos J. Pessoa. And why Moliere? And why Tartuffe (1664), a meditation on lies and hypocrisy, but also on the essence of theatre, that infernal machine for producing imposture? With Tartufo, Teatro da Garagem invites the spectator to revisit a classic text, here in the translation of the poet Regina Guimarães, with the modesty of someone who learns to read again, encouraging us to build bridges between the past, the present and the future. “When are we most deceived? When are we tartufos or when are we tartufados?” asks Carlos J. Pessoa. In a show of text and actors, the director looks at Molière's classic and discovers an ignoble theater that runs in the blood of all the characters. A theater where there are neither heroes nor villains, but creatures that produce and fight pestilence, immersed in the paranoia of cleaning or purifying themselves. “Are we doomed to poisoning by tartuice?”
